The 7th International Conference on Inverse Problems and Related Topics (ICIP 2014) convened December 15-19 at the National Taiwan University. Renowned experts and scholars in fields related to inverse problems were invited to participate in research exchange.
Certain natural order often occurs among physical matter or phenomena, such as chronological order, spatial order, causal order, and so on. The alleged forward problem, usually raised according to natural order in order to study the morphological evolution or distribution of the subject matter, takes on the role of deduction through causal order. The inverse problem is based on the results of the evolution of matter, exploring the internal law or external influences of things through observable phenomena, and deduces the cause from its results. Therefore, the positive and reverse aspects are both important in scientific research.
In recent years, the inverse problem of mathematical physics has become one of the fastest growing areas in applied mathematics. This is mainly driven by the urgent need in testing a number of applications from various disciplines in engineering and technology. At the same time, it also maintains a distinct novelty and challenge for theoreticians, thus causing many domestic and foreign professionals to engage in its research and application. At present, it has developed into a popular field in cross calculations, applied mathematics, and systems science.
The conference invited several international and domestic experts and scholars to share and exchange knowledge on mathematical theories and engineering applications of the inverse problem, such as inverse boundary value problems, inverse scattering problems, medical imaging, cloaking and invisibility, and others, hoping to promote interaction and collaboration among young mathematics and engineering scholars in the Asia-Pacific region.
