The 2015 Taiwan Lantern Festival “Creative City Metropolitan Life”, based on the concept of promoting a “low carbon-emitting, intelligent, and cultural city”, will take place in Taichung from February 27th to March 15th. This year the festival will encompass three exhibition sites, Fengyuan Miaodong-District Lantern Exhibition, Taichung Park Lantern Exhibition, and Taichung Wuri High Speed Rail Station, symbolizing the old Chinese saying, "three goats bring an auspicious year". As many as 12 thematic lantern displays have been arranged, and two adorable mascots, “Fayfay” and “Yangyang”, will appear at various tourist sites in Taichung to greet people during the Chinese New Year. It is expected the festival will draw over nine million visitors.
The 2015 Taiwan Lantern Festival will kick off first at Fengyuan District on February 27th, where Fengyuan Train Station will be decorated as a dream pastry house. The main lantern that symbolizes the proverb “the goat brings good fortune, health, and prosperity” will light up at Taichung Park on February 28th with an accompaniment of lanterns on and around the lake and lake pavilion, creating an elegant atmosphere. The third peak of the festival will be the main lantern set up by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications at the Taichung Wuri High Speed Rail Station on March 5th. In addition, the Taichung City Government has organized numerous thematic lantern displays, including a Tourist Attractions Lantern Display with landscaping that features a 1,650 square-meter pool, a LOHAS Farmer Flora Expo Lantern Display with a huge 40 x 7 meter flora wall heralding the upcoming 2018 Flora Expo, and a Low Carbon-Emission and Sustainability Lantern Display where recycled materials and energy-saving lamps will be used to build the main lantern. Moreover, various destinations including Changshu City and Kunshan City of Jiangsu Province (China), Tottori (Japan), Hong Kong, and Macao have been invited to exhibit at the Friendly City Lantern Display, while a Cuisine and Culture Lantern Display will combine 550 cuisines, souvenirs, agricultural, and special products as well as cultural and innovative products. Visitors to the festival will experience a spectacular and content-rich event.
The two mascots, “Fayfay” and “Yangyang”, will show up at the exhibition sites to interact with the public during festival time, and also assemble at various tourism sites in Taichung to greet people and hand out giveaways during the Chinese New Year. The Tourism Bureau points out that the three major exhibitions are spread out near the Taichung Wuri High Speed Rail Station, Xinwuri Train Station, Taichung Train Station, Fengyuan Train Station, and other areas. The transportation plan involves Bus Terminal South Station, Bus Terminal North Station, adjacent parking lots, and other transit points. In addition, Taiwan Railways will work with the Taiwan High Speed Rail to increase train services, providing connections between the three major exhibition sites via trains.
