The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) was established in 1963, with headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is the world's largest international conference industry organization. At present, there are nearly 100 member countries and regions, with more than 1,100 member organizations representing national agencies, aviation, restaurants, and conference consulting companies.
The main goal of ICCA is to provide knowledge, education, training, and research data regarding conferences. Each year, international conferences held by various countries and cities around the world are ranked. These statistics often show new trends of international conferences. Therefore, they have become an important reference index for countries and cities in recognizing their own strengths.
In 2016, Kaohsiung successfully won the bid to host the 2020 ICCA Congress, with Rotterdam (Netherlands), Helsinki (Finland), Athens (Greece), Macau (China), Saint Petersburg (Russia), Yokohama (Japan), and Cartagena (Colombia) losing. Kaohsiung City Government will integrate central and local resources to prepare for this important annual event of the global convention and exhibition industry.
