arrow What does "UFI" mean in the convention industry?
UFI stands for Union des Foires Internationales in French, and International Fairs Union in English. The name UFI was standardized at their Cairo Conference in Egypt in 2003 along with the tagline "The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry". This expanded UFI from a regional organization representing Europe to an international organization of the global convention industry.
Founded in Milan, Italy, in 1925, UFI is currently headquartered in Paris, France, as a non-political international association. UFI not only serves as an examination authority for the international convention industry, it is also an effective platform for professionals in the convention industry to exchange ideas and experiences, using its unique marketing and communication tools to promote exhibitions around the world. UFI provides members with convention research, education training, and seminars. Through dealing with issues of common interest by holding regular meetings with branches and organizations around the world, UFI also facilitates cooperation between itself and its partners.
In 2014, TAITRA won the best marketing award given at the UFI Marketing Awards, also known as the "Oscars of Global Conventions". In 2018, Walter M. S. Yeh, president and CEO of TAITRA, attended a sustainable development education forum and Asia-Pacific conference in Malaysia, where he spoke of Taiwan's recent experience in hardware and software development, effectively boosting the global visibility and exposure of Taiwan's convention industry.
Although the global convention industry and international conference activities have been severely impacted by COVID-19 this year, Taiwan has gained global attention and a positive reputation due to the nation's outstanding response to epidemic prevention, mask diplomacy, and TAITRA's online conventions and remote industry reports.
