arrow Can we still participate in international conferences even if we don't go outdoors!? How to use digital technology to acquire knowledge and expand networks?
The COVID-19 pandemic has catastrophically affected the international mobility of people. As a result, holding international conferences by utilizing digital technologies can facilitate knowledge acquisition and information exchange. Most international conferences are organized according to the three stages of an event's life cycle: the preparatory period, the conference, and post-conference; technology can play a different part in each of these stages. There are different technological tools suitable for each stage, tools that are capable of assisting organizers with increasing efficiency and providing an ideal conference experience for participants. In fact, for the conference industry, most technologies currently in use are relatively mature and already widely applied to conferences. For instance, for the preparatory period, most organizers build an official website as the main platform to display information and make announcements, while at the same time many offer functions such as online registration, cash flow processing, and conference material downloads. In addition, event information is promoted and shared via social media. During the conference, digital tools such as video conferencing software, AR, and VR are often used to help participants exchange knowledge and expand their networks. After the conference, the analysis of backend data can serve as reference for follow-up services and organizing the next event. Plus, the website may also be used as a platform for continuous discussions. All of the above are methods that can contribute to the successful hosting of international conferences through the integration and application of digital technology tools.
