The MEET TAIWAN Program, organized by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade, held its Open Arms from MEET TAIWAN Press Conference at the Taipei International Convention Center on October 4, 2022, to officially welcome international MICE events and visitors to Taiwan.
The international press conference featured a magic carnival theme with MEET TAIWAN program leader Cynthia Kiang, Director General of the Bureau of Trade Bureau, lighting up the stage with magic and hope, announcing that Taiwan’s MICE industry has entered a new chapter.
Numerous VIP’s from international associations, venue operators, and companies showed their support with their presence in person and online, symbolizing the joint efforts and support from both public and private sectors alike, bringing Taiwan’s MICE industry to new heights.
A highlight of the event was exclusive congratulations given by international MICE organizations including ICCA, UFI, IAEE, and IAPCO, plus convention bureaus and associations from around the world. This showcased the global support and enthusiasm Taiwan has gathered as a flourishing and prosperous destination.
The MICE industry worldwide has faced unprecedented challenges in the past 2 years. However, through creativity, resilience, and commitment, combined with robust software and hardware capabilities, Taiwan is able to come back stronger than ever.
At the beginning of the outbreak, Taiwan quickly showed its digital integration strength, successfully holding large-scale online international conferences such as the 2020 ICCA Congress. During the pandemic, the Taiwanese government swiftly responded by launching an Online Public Exhibition Template to help Taiwanese companies easily exhibit online. Taiwan also held 280 online business meetings, serving more than 7,000 domestic and foreign companies in the past 2 years alone.
Looking into 2023 and beyond, Simon Wang, President & CEO of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), expressed positivity and excitement for the prospects of MICE events in Taiwan. Taiwan will be expecting more than 500 business events, including international conferences and corporate meetings to be held in Taiwan next year. It is estimated there will be around 390 thousand business travelers, generating economic benefits of around USD800 million, for an anticipated total value of USD2 billion for the Taiwan MICE industry.
Through the press conference, Taiwan sincerely ‘Opened its Arms’ to welcome the world. A thriving and vibrant destination with easy accessibility, MICE venues ideal for all types off business events, and tailor-made services—Taiwan is truly a prime destination choice for all the world to discover.
